Every Day She Goes To Work, Her Grandparents Send Her A Message In The Most Heartwarming Way

For a young girl, the daily trip to work can sometimes seem a bit lonely. The ride on the bus in the early mornings can be quiet. But for one 17-year-old from Methil, Scotland, that solitary trip to her job became a way to feel how loved she was, all thanks to her grandparents.

Rio Smith works in administration and spends her early mornings taking the bus to work. And like clockwork, her grandparents Valerie and Wilson Ovenstone wait patiently for the three seconds where from her bus, Rio can see into their yard, and one of the grandparents, sometimes both, waves hi to her as she passes by.

As quick as Rio sees them, they are gone. But it’s enough to remind her that she is loved and gives her a wonderful start to her day. Rio wanted to share that love to others, so she posted the quick snippet of a grandparent waving to her. She often doesn’t know who is who, Rio said, but that doesn’t matter.

Posting the video to X (formerly Twitter), Rio wrote, “Every morning my Gran or Granddad stand outside and wave to me when (I) am on the bus to work.” It instantly went viral, quickly gaining 150,000 likes within days of posting the sweet video. Users were moved by the sweetness of such a simple gesture.

One commenter said, “This is the cutest thing I’ve seen in my life. Grandparents are so-so precious.” Another, “That’s adorable. I want to be that kind of grandparent.” Rio said that she and her grandparents are very close. “I posted the video just because I thought it was sweet. I was so shocked when everyone was replying with such lovely comments towards my grandparents.”

Awwwww,” an X user wrote. “This is too cute.”

She said that her grandparents wave at her for moral support, and it “honestly melt(s) my heart,” and that she “cherishes” them both. “I’d say that they are the most genuine, caring and loving people you’ll ever meet,” Rio said. “They aren’t like normal grandparents, they are fun and act so much younger than what they are, which is so funny at times.”

For Rio, the 40-minute commute’s highlight is the wave from her grandparents. “It means a lot to me to have such lovely grandparents support me every day in life,” she said. “I don’t know what I would do without them.” Watch below for a look at the morning wave from her grandparents!
