Watch: Legendary Actor Turns 99 With A Music Video Debut And …. Some Firefighting?

In a heartwarming twist of fate, two legends from completely different worlds have joined forces in a way that only the magic of music and love could inspire.

Chris Martin, the frontman of Coldplay, teamed up with the iconic Dick Van Dyke for the music video “All My Love,” a single from Coldplay’s newest album Moon Music. Filmed just before Van Dyke’s monumental 99th birthday on December 13, the video is a testament to life, love, and the enduring power of joy.

The music video, shot at Van Dyke’s Malibu home, captures Martin’s soulful piano performance alongside Van Dyke’s characteristic flair for dancing. Known for his unforgettable roles in Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Van Dyke brings his trademark energy to the collaboration. In a 7-minute director’s cut, the legendary entertainer shares his reflections on growing old with grace, staying silly, and embracing love.

The partnership was born from an idea by Spike Jonze, the director of the music video, who was brainstorming with Martin. “I said, ‘We’re looking for an old guy. Who’s the oldest guy?’” Martin joked during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside Van Dyke. Van Dyke admitted that when he first heard Martin was on the phone, he asked, “Who’s that?” Despite living only eight miles apart, the two had never met before.

This collaboration comes in a year when Van Dyke continues to defy expectations. In June, he became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner for his guest role on Days of Our Lives. “I feel like a spy from nighttime television,” he said during his acceptance speech. “I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”

But Van Dyke’s resilience was tested in the days leading up to his birthday. He and his wife, Arlene, were among thousands forced to flee their Malibu home as the Franklin fire swept through the area. Van Dyke described the scary moments once the fire breached their property.

I’m out there laying on the ground trying to undo this fire hose, and the fire’s coming over the hill. What I did was exhaust myself. I forgot how old I am, and I realized I was crawling to get out.”

Fortunately, the community came together to help. “Three neighbors came and carried me out, and came back and put out a little fire in the guesthouse and saved me,” Van Dyke recounted. Although several homes in the area were destroyed, his home was spared, and his beloved pets were rescued. One cat, Bobo, went missing but was later found safe and uninjured when the couple returned home.

“We found Bobo as soon as we arrived back home this morning,” Van Dyke shared in a Facebook post. “There was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called in to assist. But, thankfully he was easy to find and not harmed.”

The story touched fans worldwide, including Coldplay, who quickly sent their gratefulness he was OK and offers of help. “Dick – we’re sending love and prayers to you, Arlene, and everyone affected by these fires. Call us if there’s anything we can do. Love Phil, Chris, Guy, Jonny, and Will.”
