Parenting can be one of the hardest jobs in the world. There isn’t really any good way to figure it out, you just dive in.
For me, I know that when I was pregnant, I thought it would be easy after my daughter was born.
I found out quickly that TV and movies lied to me all my life. Let me tell you, it’s all of the following: frustratingly annoying, mind-numbingly challenging, exhausting, repetitive and the most amazing, love-filled and awe-inspiring thing I have ever done. But parenting doesn’t come with a manual.
Even the books that claim to be able to help you raise your child into a good human, don’t have all the answers. Because, trust me, your child will find a way to be the exception to every single rule the author lists.
So it’s heartwarming and inspiring to me, when I see parents who are just doing things right, who are raising children to become those people we need in the world.
For one mom, she got the validation that she is raising her young son correctly. TikToker @mom_aldie recently posted a video of her and her son, Aldie. The video has more than 17 million views. In it, the 4-year-old explains to his mom why he felt he had a bad day.
From being angry at her for not letting him go outside, to sorry he got mad at her at all, Aldie expresses his desire to explain why he felt the way he did.
And in the simplest way of showing love, his mom just listened.
When he paused, she said,
Life is like that. We get upset, we get mad, we cry.”
To which her son replies, ‘that’s emotions mama!’
Parents, we’re a rare breed. We figure it out on the fly. We make life-changing decisions on two hours of sleep and pray that it works out in the end. That maybe, just maybe, our kids will know that everything we did for them, was for the right reasons. Because we loved them.
All we want, I believe, is to raise good humans. To send them out into the world and watch them live good lives, and maybe, just maybe, to change things for the better.
And this is one mama who is surely raising a young man who will consider the feelings of those around him.
Watch below for the entire heart-warming conversation between Aldie and his mom.
