When you know, you just know. For Brodie Richards it was love at first sight. And no matter what anyone said, he knew it was a love that would last a lifetime. He was so confident, he placed a small bet – he’d marry his girl.
The couple first met in a small Florida high school in Plant City, where Savannah was a cheerleader, and Brodie played football. They attended the same weight training class, and Brodie was immediately smitten.
“He was the type of guy who wouldn’t let anybody else spot me whenever we would be lifting weights,” Savannah said. It was clear from the start that Brodie was interested, she said.
His feelings became even more apparent when he asked Savannah to homecoming in a unique way. “He actually threw me a football, and it said, written on the football, ‘You just caught a date to homecoming.'”
Savannah was initially hesitant, she was a junior and Brodie was a sophomore. But they went to homecoming together, and their relationship grew from there. A pivotal moment that Savannah would only learn about a few years back was caught on video in 2016.

Brodie, while doing homework with a friend during Savannah’s cheer practice, made a bold declaration. “He was sitting at one of my practices one day. You can hear in that video that there’s cheering going on in the background. He was sitting at one of the tables in the same area and doing homework with a friend,” she said.
“They were talking about how much he was enjoying getting to know me. He’s like, ‘I’m gonna marry her,’ and bet $10,” Savannah said, smiling. Brodie’s friend was skeptical, pointing out that they were only 15 years old. But that didn’t matter to Brody, he knew it would happen.
We really are just best friends. We fit together from the moment we met. It was so much of a strong friendship that it came so easy to love him,” Savannah said.
The video remained hidden until Savannah discovered it about four years ago. “I always knew we were going to get married, so I held onto the video for about four years now, just hoping that one day I would be able to have that moment,” she said.
The couple finally tied the knot in April, and Savannah shared the video on TikTok, where it quickly went viral. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive, with people commenting on how inspiring their story was. “People are tagging their significant others saying, ‘That’s going to be us one day,'” Savannah says. “We’re happy that we can reach people who were in the same life spot we were in once and show that you can make it work if you choose to.”
Savannah and Brodie’s journey has seen them navigate life’s ups and downs together, from college to buying their first home to becoming parents to their 1-year-old daughter. “It’s nice knowing you can get through anything with your person,” Savannah says. Their story is a testament to the power of young love and the strength of a true partnership.
Even though the friend who recorded the 2016 video couldn’t attend the wedding, she sent the couple a card with $10 inside, fulfilling the bet that Brodie made all those years ago. The couple framed the $10 as a reminder of their journey together. “We’ve been able to stick together through college, buying our first home, and becoming first-time parents,” Savannah says proudly. “It’s you and them against the world, and I feel blessed to have found that.”
