With the Super Bowl just around the corner, it seems that everyone is getting involved.
With Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelce who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, football is finding itself with a new group of fans – Swifties.
And it’s not just for the younger generation – even seniors are getting on the Swiftie train.
A video has gone viral of a group of “Senior Swifties” at the Primrose Retirement Community in Missouri. The seniors danced to music and held signs proclaiming them as ‘Swifties’ all while cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs during their playoff game win against the Buffalo Bills.
The group of residents sat in chairs, dancing to “Swag Surfin” by F.L.Y. (Fast Life Yungstaz), holding onto their heads while circling in their seats.
And just as the song’s beat dropped, they held their arms out and assumed a surfing position, swaying left and right. Then the raucous group brought out the big guns, and started grooving to the music with the doggy paddle move.
They all wore Kansas City Chief T-Shirts and baseball caps turned to the side. Some of the signs read ’87 Travis Kelce’ and ‘I’m a Swiftie’.
Wearing Kansas City Chief T-shirts and baseball caps to the side, the community group then went back to the surfing motion.
“New name…same awesome people!,” the retirement community posted on social media. “The ‘Primrose Sedalia Chiefs Cheerleaders’ who brought you “Red Kingdom” by Tech Nyne last year are hyped to help the Chiefs beat the Bills with their version of swag surfin’!”
The NFL has been enjoying the new fans that have flocked to the games and to cheer on the Chiefs since Swift has been seen multiple times attending games and cheering on her boyfriend, Kelce.
Other residents joined in on the Swift love, posting a video welcoming the singer to Baltimore this past weekend as the Chiefs played against the Baltimore Ravens for a ticket to the Super Bowl.
“Taylor Swift, welcome to our great city of Baltimore. There is much for you to do and see here. And while you’re here, we hope that you enjoy yourself immensely,” a resident said.
The Chiefs went on to win their spot with a 17-10 win against the Ravens.
We believe we helped them go to the Super Bowl,” Primrose Life Enrichment Director Connie Chevalier joked.
Many of the Primrose Sedalia Chiefs Cheerleaders are in their 90s, like Jenna Dean, 93.
“I was holding the sign for the Chiefs to make a touchdown,” Dean said.
Other signs held by less active dancers ask “Is Taylor Here?” and say “I’m a Swiftie.” The video has even made it to the resident’s children.
“Several of my family have seen it and called me and said go Mom,” Donna Egan, 90, said.
The cheerleaders are already working on the next routine for the Chiefs’ Super Bowl game. They plan on recording it for social media, once again.
The Super Bowl takes place in Las Vegas on Feb. 11 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
