You never know when you will need someone to lift you up. So when things are bleak, it’s the friends we have that can sometimes help you find happiness even when it seems you can’t.

As we grow older, it becomes increasingly important to have friends who can lift our spirits when we’re feeling down. And for Hollywood stars Jeremy Renner and Paul Rudd, that friendship even includes some much-needed teasing.

Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared a hilarious story during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” about how Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the same franchise, cheered him up after his snowplow accident on New Year’s Day.

Renner explained that Rudd, who happened to be in town promoting his new movie at the time of the accident, visited Renner in the hospital and made him laugh with a fake Cameo video. Cameo is a site where you can pay a celebrity to record you, or someone you like, a video.

He made a fake one like I’d paid him money for a Cameo,” Renner said, laughing.

Kimmel then played the clip for the audience, and it was instantly obvious why Renner found it so funny. Rudd, holding up his phone with a smudged camera lens, greeted Renner with a comical, “Hey, Jerry, I hear you’re a little banged up. Got in a fight with a snowblower apparently?”

Rudd, in his deadpan delivery, went on, “Anyway, I just wanted to send this video. It’s really from the heart. I hope you’re feeling better. Sounds like you are. Apparently, you’re a pretty tough guy. Maybe I’ll get to meet you one day. Wouldn’t that be something?”

But it was Rudd’s parting words that had everyone, including Renner, in hysterics.

In the meantime, take care and take it easy, ha ha, for a while. Next time, maybe just let the snow melt. Ha ha. Okay. Feel better, Jerry.”

Renner couldn’t help but laugh again as he watched the video, and Kimmel commented, “We’re glad to see you here in the flesh.” Renner, who shared Rudd’s video on social media, expressed how much he appreciated Rudd’s sense of humor and friendship.

Renner also spoke about his accident, revealing that he had broken “35 or so” bones but considered himself lucky to be alive. And throughout his recovery, Rudd’s funny video message brought some much-needed levity to the situation.

The friendship between Renner and Rudd is a heartwarming reminder that friends are important, no matter what age you are. As we grow older, keeping in contact with friends who can make us laugh becomes even more important. As some say, laughter is the best medicine.

So, here’s to Rudd and Renner, two Marvel superheroes who know how to find the funny in even the darkest of situations.
