Tall and well-known, one NBA legend couldn’t keep his big deeds quiet for very long.

With a personal objective of helping someone each day, Shaquille O’Neal hit his goal during a recent trip he made to a jewelry store in Atlanta, Ga.

And that moment, like most of Shaq’s life, was caught on camera. But it’s what he did off the court that is garnering him attention this time.

Shaq told reporters that while he was in the middle of shopping for earrings, he overheard a young man trying to put an engagement ring on layaway.

The basketball star said he loves doing ‘random acts of kindness’ when he can, and this time the opportunity was too good to pass up.

A clip went viral where NBA legend Shaquille O’Neil paid for the engagement ring of a stranger in a jewelry store.

Shaq, who would only say the ring’s price was not too much for him, quickly handed over his credit card to the Zale’s store clerk, and unbeknownst to him, that simple kind deed became a hit viral clip.

Shaq later brought up the moment on the sports show TNT Tuesday. He said he overheard the stranger, who he described as a ‘young kid, hard-working guy’, asking to make a layaway payment plan on a ring for his girlfriend. That’s when Shaq said he decided to step in.

“He was just so shy and he was saying, ‘Hey, how much do I owe to pay off my ring?’ I was like, ‘My man, how much is the ring?’ I’m not going to say the amount, but it’s not much for me,” Shaq said. “(The man was ) like, ‘Hey man, I can come back in the next month and the next month,’ like layaway, he puts the money down..”

But I was like, ‘Tell your girlfriend I got it. I’ll take care of it’” Shaq said.

“At first, he didn’t want to take it,” he continued. “He’s like, ‘I can’t do that, sir.’ So I said, ‘Don’t worry about it, I do it all the time.’ I’m just trying to make people smile, that’s all.” The young man finally agreed to let the legendary basketball star help him. He even got him to pose with him for a picture.

Shaq said that he doesn’t do these things for attention, adding that whenever he leaves the house, he just tries “to do a good deed.” 

Those are words that we all should learn to live by. Now that young couple will have a wonderful story for the couple to tell at their wedding!
