Spencer, the landscaper behind SB Mowing, has become a beacon of hope and kindness in his Wichita, Kansas, community. Known for his viral videos on TikTok and YouTube, Spencer has built a reputation for transforming overgrown lawns and helping neighbors who can no longer maintain their yards. His latest endeavor, however, has gone beyond grass-cutting and straight into heartwarming heroism.
In a video that has since become one of his most viewed, Spencer shared the story of Beth, an elderly woman who had been struggling for a month to find someone to trim her overgrown lawn. “I got a call from a friend at the city, and she told me that there is an elderly lady that is in desperate need of help,” Spencer wrote on his GoFundMe page.
So I stopped by her house, and her lawn was getting CRAZY!”
Beth had been unable to get help, and the city had warned her of a hefty fine if her lawn wasn’t trimmed. Spencer quickly jumped into action. “I completely transformed her lawn for free, and she was in tears; she was so happy,” he wrote. In the video, Beth’s gratitude is palpable. “My prayers have been answered,” she said, watching Spencer work his magic.
But Spencer didn’t stop there. Realizing that Beth faced more significant challenges, he decided to launch a GoFundMe campaign to address the accessibility issues around her home. “A lot of people are wanting to donate to help her fix some of the accessibility issues around her home,” Spencer said. The campaign aimed to fund a ramp, a new driveway, a chair lift for her basement, and enough to maintain her yard for the next few years.
Within days, the campaign raised more than $380,000. “I really appreciate everyone that donates to help Beth out,” Spencer continued. “I will make sure that the money goes towards fixing all of the items above or any other accessibility issues that Beth needs.” He also planned to give leftover funds to Beth in cash and donate the rest to local nonprofits.
Spencer’s journey from lawn care professional to social media influencer is equally inspiring. SB Mowing’s time-lapse videos of wild lawns turning into tidy yards have garnered over 2 billion views and more than 20 million followers across platforms. “When you speed up the work and you see the transformation and it’s super fast-paced, it’s really satisfying to watch,” Spencer said.
What started as a simple gesture of kindness has now turned into a movement of generosity and community support, all led by Spencer’s commitment to helping others. “I started out doing this for fun, just something to help people out … and it’s turning into my career now,” he said. “It’s something I could have never imagined, and I’m so happy to be doing it.”
