Ordering fast food usually costs you more money than you want to spend. Quick and easy, though, so it’s worth the expense. Recently though, one man found more than he bargained for when he picked up his Sausage McMuffin from the McDonald’s drive through.
Indiana resident Josiah Vargas shared to TikTok his recent trip to his local McDonalds. But when he got his order, and drove away, he rummaged for his sandwich. What he found instead was less tasty but much more shocking – thousands and thousands of dollars.
In the viral video, which has racked up more than 2.3 million views, Vargas looks shocked as he shows what he finds instead of his breakfast. Vargas tells viewers it has to be the store’s deposits. The drive through bag held an assortment of Ziploc bags, each filled with huge amounts of cash.
“Why? There’s a couple thousand dollars here,” Vargas said, holding up a baggie full of $20 bills. “Like, why would they do this? Why would they give this to me?” Vargas told TikTok how easy it would have been for him to keep driving with that money in the bag, and leave the workers in a mess. But, he said, shaking his head, he knew what to do.
Now I have to return it because I’m a good person, I guess,” Vargas said, putting the money back in the bag. “How interesting.”
Vargas drives back to the McDonald’s, as he walks into the restaurant, he looks at the sky and asks, “Why would you guys do this to me? You know how bad I want this money? Why put me in this situation?” With the camera still filming, Vargas walks to the cashier at the counter. “You guys laundering money around here?” he jokes to a worker at the register. Sounds of relief and thankfulness can be heard from the staff as they realize the money has been returned. One employee even asks if they can give Vargas a hug, which he happily accepts.

Once back to his car, Vargas said that, ‘they were just all hugging me and thanking me.’ “Free McDonald’s for a month, I guess.” “When I was driving away. They called me back in. They gave me $200,” he said, smiling. He ends his video with his lesson learned.
“Do good, people. Return $5000, got $200 and free McDonald’s for a month,” he says. “Good trade value and maybe a viral TikTok.” Response to Vargas’ video has been mostly positive, with commenters on his video lauding him for his selflessness.
