Grandma’s Hiding A Secret ‘Treasure’ – When Grandkid Finds Out, She Makes It Go Viral

Through the years, we can forget all the little mundane moments. But, sometimes those moments are more important than we give them credit for. Because, when stitched together, those moments can create a life that quite simply forgot we lived.

One Massachusetts granddaughter learned that lesson when she found an answering machine her grandmother had kept. On it was a treasure trove of messages, spanning more than 14 years of Pailey Baczek’s life all caught through missed calls to her grandma, Joan Jonson.

Baczek carefully put together a collection of the voicemails that she left from roughly the age of 3 to age 17. The emotional TikTok video quickly went viral. “I didn’t know my grandmother had those recordings,” Baczek said. The now-22 -year-old said her only goal when posting the video to TikTok was to have a place where she could save the video. The video went viral, garnering more than 3 million views and 400,000 likes. The messages are small highlights from Baczek’s life.

Her voice matures throughout the messages, which ranged from “I just got a new scooter” to “I just got the job.” You get to hear the love and the life that Baczek had, and glimpse how she grows and changes with each message. “She’s my only granddaughter, so she’s really, really important to me. And saving those voice messages, I just thought it would be a nice thing to do. And she’d always be able to hear them,” Johnson said.

Baczek said her and her grandmother’s relationship was always close. “We lived in the same house together … so my grandmother has always been like my next door neighbor and someone I can always come to for anything,” she said. The messages show the closeness. In one, Baczek asks if her grandmother can come and watch a movie with her.

If you get this message, tell my mom that I love her,” the young Pailey asks in another message.

Baczek said that these snippets also remind us that voices matter in life, as well. “Voices are super important to listen to, you know, it captures that one little moment,” she said. “It really encompasses like the person themselves.”

For Johnson, the messages are even more important than that. She said there is a lesson to be found in them. “I think the little things are really precious. We should all hold them dear,” Johnson said. Watch below for a look at this amazing family and a listen to the voicemail messages.
