Growing up, the bond between a brother and sister is like no other. These siblings will forever know there is one other person who always has their back. But, for one little girl, her older brother is showing her that kindness is an easy thing to give to others.
When Harper, 6, realized her dad wasn’t able to make a father-daughter dance because of work, she was distraught, said Patrice Thompson, her mom. Harper’s dance studio has a yearly event, which includes the special dance. This year’s theme was Barbie and Ken.
So, when 14-year-old Micah realized how upset his little sister was, he did what only a big brother could do – he dressed up as Ken and joined her onstage. Patrice said that as soon as Micah realized Harper would have to dance alone, he jumped at the chance to help.
“Honestly, I am so proud but at the same time not super surprised because that’s the young man he is!” Patrice said. “Most 14-year-old boys would rather do anything else than perform a routine in front of their peers and during summer when he could be off with friends, but he chose to give up time to support her so she didn’t feel left out.”
The proud mom shared the video on Instagram, and was stunned when the sweet clip went viral – gaining more than 17 million views. While viewers praised the teen, his mom said that thi is just who her son is.
We call our family a team, and when he stepped in for her, it definitely showed me that he truly understands the meaning of being selfless.” she said.
While Harper had been upset about her dad missing the event, she was so happy when she learned that Micah would be joining her. “I’m really proud of him and his heart, and I’m proud of her for getting up there with her brother,” she shared. “I know being the only one without a dad up there was tough, but the studio and her brother were so sweet in encouraging her through it!”
Commenters on the video all agreed. “Crying for strangers again 😭 this is sweet,” said one person. But one comment stood out from the rest – gaining more than 43,000 likes.
“As a man whose dad walked away from me, this makes me so emotional. You are raising your son to be the cycle breaker,” he wrote. “He won’t end up repeating cycles of toxic masculinity like so many of the men we see today. He will be a better man. And his little sister will grow up knowing what a real man should be like, because she has her big brother to show her. You’re doing a great job raising them both.”
