After Furball Runs Away From Home, He Winds Up In a Spot That’s Paws-itively Shocking

In a tale that rivals the curiosity of any feline, Harry, an 8-year-old indoor cat from Somerville, Massachusetts, recently embarked on an unexpected adventure, leaving his family both relieved and baffled. Missing for weeks, Harry somehow found himself nearly 10 miles away from home—hiding out in the garage of Logan International Airport.

Harry’s escapade began on July 19th, when he made a mysterious escape from his home. “He’s an indoor cat. He doesn’t go out, so he found an escape hatch of some kind,” his owner, Christine Lafleur, told CBS Boston. Despite scouring the neighborhood and plastering the area with missing cat posters, Harry’s family had no luck finding him. They could only hope for his safe return. Then, three weeks later, a phone call changed everything. Christine and her family received surprising news.

We got a call from the Animal Rescue League of Boston — he’d been found at Logan Airport in a garage,” she said.

As it turns out, Harry was discovered by two transportation employees at the airport who noticed the black-and-white cat calmly hanging out in the garage. Described as “very friendly,” Harry didn’t put up a fight when the kind-hearted workers placed him in a box and took him to the Animal Rescue League’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center.

The moment Harry’s microchip was scanned, the Lafleur family was notified. Though elated to have him back, Christine and her family couldn’t help but wonder how their indoor cat managed to travel 10 miles across town. “We were like happy and stunned at the same time. We really wish he could tell us how he got there, but he’s not giving it up!” Christine joked.

While Harry remains tight-lipped (or tight-muzzled?) about his adventure, the family has a working theory. “He is pretty obsessed with boxes, so he may have seen a box in the back of a delivery truck and jumped in, then took a little ride to Logan,” Christine said. It’s a theory that makes sense, she said, given Harry’s known fondness for squeezing into any box he can find.

Harry’s feline brother, Ron, was especially pleased with his return, though it’s anyone’s guess whether Ron quizzed him on his big city adventure. And while Harry isn’t spilling the beans, his family is just grateful to have him back, safe and sound.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston used Harry’s heartwarming reunion as an opportunity to remind pet owners about the importance of microchipping their furry friends. “A microchip drastically increases the likelihood of being reunited should they become lost,” the organization noted.
