Dog Leads Cops to Stunning Desert Discovery – What They Find Leaves Them Shocked

What gets lost in the inhospitable desert, often remains there, hidden in the drifting sands and vast emptiness. But recently, when all hope was gone for a group of rescuers, they found help from an unexpected source.

When 84-year-old Gregorio Romero went out for a walk around his neighborhood of Moctezuma in Sonora, Mexico, everyone expected he would return as normal. But sometimes, his relatives would later tell authorities, Romero liked to visit local villages and might stay there for a few days at a time. So when he didn’t come home from his walk that first day, there was little cause for concern.

But when he didn’t return after four days, the family knew that something had to be desperately wrong. His niece, Ramona, was especially concerned since Romero suffered from memory loss and never stayed gone this long. So the family went to the local police and reported him missing.

Immediately, a massive search was started for Romero. Members included the Mexican National Guard, The Municipal Police, the Municipal Civil Protection Unit and an elite group of highly-trained search and rescue dogs. But more than a week passed and there still was no sign of the missing man. After running out of options, authorities decided to turn to an unlikely helper – El Palomo, Romero’s dog.

With just a little prodding, the missing man’s dog began his own search. Despite having never tracked a person before, the dog quickly took the lead. El Palomo guided rescuers over ravines, through dusty paths and up sandy hills. And almost like he knew where the man had been all along, the trusty dog found his owner — only two miles from their home.

84-year-old Gregorio Romero recently got lost in the desert. His dog, Palermo led rescuers to him.

Viral video showed the ecstatic rescuers, along with a relieved Romero, making their way back to the man’s home, followed along by his loyal dog. And, as the tired man made his way to a chair to sit, El Paloma tenderly nudged his owner, giving him a onceover, before allowing the man to settle and rest. The two-year-old dog would later wait outside of the local hospital for two days while Romero was treated after his ordeal.

El Palomo remained by the hospital door day and night waiting for the recovery of his beloved Don Goyo [Gregorio]”. On (Tuesday, Dec. 6), Don Goyo went out to sunbathe as part of his recovery and, of course, his faithful friend sat nearby to protect him,” said the prosecutor’s office in a statement.

They added, “The unconditional love of his pet allowed Don Goyo to be reunited with his family, because it was El Palomo who led the authorities to where he was.” Watch the amazing rescue, below.
