Disabled Woman Wishes For Adventure – Husband’s Crazy Idea Leaves Her Speechless

When you love someone, there isn’t anything you won’t do. Love can help people move mountains, find a strength they never knew they had.

And in the case of one man, it led him to create an invention that not only revolutionized the life of the woman he loves, but the lives of others all over the world.

It also doesn’t hurt that Zack Nelson is also a well-known YouTuber who specializes in taking apart technology to show how it works and why.

Zack runs the YouTube channel, JerryRigEverything. He typically spends his time focusing on phones and gaming systems that he can tear down into the simplest components, showing his viewers how things are made and how they work.

For his wife, Cambry, this particular skill became a life-changing one for her. Paralyzed in a horse-riding accident in 2005, she has used a wheelchair since then, which limits her on what she is able to do in the outdoors.

Zack decided it was time to change all of that by building her an off-road chair, calling it ‘Not-a-Wheelchair.”

He focused on making sure it could be useful and safe on outdoor adventures. He used the parts of two electric bikes and added a seat to it. Cambry and Zack wanted to build something that would be more cost effective for disabled users. They said that while there were wheelchairs similar, those did not move as fast and often cost as much as a regular vehicle would.

“The toughest challenge when developing ‘Not-A-Wheelchair’ is the price. We wanted to create something that is affordable for everyone. Finding quality components, and a simple enough design at the cheapest price possible took quite a bit of time,” Zack told the website, Bored Panda.

But I think we have something now that everyone will be able to enjoy, at a fraction of the cost of other ‘off-road wheelchairs’ currently on the market.”

Cambry said that at home, she uses a normal wheelchair. But if she’s going to be outside, she jumps in what she and Zack have dubbed “The Rig.”

The couple have managed to test out The Rig on two recent trips. Zack said,  “We have taken The Rig to Hawaii twice for testing. The bike has to be shipped with a freight company before we go, but we ship The Rig about a week before we fly out ourselves, and it’s waiting there for us when we arrive.”

Now the couple are making sure that the wider public has access to ‘Not-a-Wheelchair’. Constantly updating it from the first vehicle for Cambry, they are confident they can help others in wheelchairs find freedom in off-roading.

The Rig Stats
  • It can go up to 12 mph.
  • Battery life is 10-20 miles
  • Weight limit of 225lbs
  • Rear Rack Mounting System
    • Can hold a wheelchair, camping gear or a picnic basket
  • Aluminum frame
  • Detachable bumper
  • Four-inch off-road bike tires
  • Price begins at $3,750

The couple made sure to point out that ‘Not-a-Wheelchair’ is in the end, a bicycle. “It’s not a fine-tuned, polished, medical device,” Zack and Cambry said. But, they hope that others can find the same freedom Cambry has been able to experience with it.
