Dirty-Talking Parrot Needs A Home … Guess How Many People Apply To Adopt Him

Well, who says swearing like a sailor is always a bad thing? A foul-mouth saucy parrot named Pepper won hearts in a viral video that was made to help this bird find a home. The Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, NY, recently got an earful after taking in a white-fronted Amazon parrot. “Do you want me to kick your [expletive]?” Pepper asked a volunteer.

The naughty bird was surrendered after his owner could no longer care for him. White-fronted Amazon parrots can copy up to 40 sounds, and in the case of Pepper, his original owner warned the shelter that odds were good he’d let out a string of curses.

Shelter director Amy Lewis said that while it could be difficult to find the parrot a home, she knew just how to go about making Pepper’s chance for adoption easier. Sarcasm and the simple truth.

On the shelter’s Facebook page, Lewis wrote: “If you think Pepper’s feathers are colorful, you should hear his language.” She went on to let people know that a “potty-mouthed parrot” was up for adoption.

“Bringing home a cursing conure might seem like a fun idea until Pepper offends grandma’s Tuesday night knitting group,” she wrote.

“On the bright side, if you want to keep unannounced company from dropping in, adopt Pepper. They’ll think twice after being cussed out by your new foul-mouthed feathered friend.”

And Pepper went viral. More than 400 people raced to adopt the spicy bird. And many more couldn’t help but crack their own jokes. “Somebody get this guy a bar of soap or a humor-loving home!” one commenter on the Facebook post wrote.

Another commenter wrote, “My grandma is about to be 81 years old and swears all the time.”

The shelter noted that finding him a perfect home was important. “We looked for adopters who offered parrot experience, information on housing/enclosures and recognition that they would be able to age with Pepper or had plans for Pepper if he outlived them,” the shelter said.

All of their work paid off. Pepper found a new home in Olean, N.Y., and now has a sibling: an African grey parrot named Shelby. Tiffany Turner and her fiancé, Tim Sage, knew they needed a friend for Shelby. Turner said Pepper is making himself at home.

“He’s really sweet, and he seems to love women,” she said. “I could tell he was definitely a ladies’ man.” “Shelby is also foul, so we’re happy to have another swear bird,” she said.
