Country Star Unveils Post-Holiday Present – And It’s Already Changing Lives In His Hometown

For most, Christmas came and went with plenty of toys and food to go around.

Families headed back home after visiting relatives, stuffed and spoiled, ready for the new year.

But not every family is as lucky. And one country singer and his wife were determined to fix that.

Brad Paisley and his actress wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, are known for giving back to their Nashville, Tenn., community.

In 2020, the dynamic duo opened up The Store, which gives free groceries to families in need. But this year, they started a new endeavor – opening a free toy store that would let families pick out gifts to give.

Using The Store as the backdrop, the two-day event welcomed more than 400 families to shop for toys, plushies, clothes, video games and more, helping Nashville residents who live beneath the federal poverty line.

“The emotional aspect of being able to give your child something your child wanted versus just something to sort of get you through the holidays, that’s such a load off the minds of somebody who maybe didn’t think they were going to be able to do that,” Paisley said.

Volunteers and staff from The Store and from Belmont University ran the toy store. Free wrapping was also provided for the more than 2,000 items that had been donated by local residents and the First Responders Children’s Foundation. While parents shopped, their kids were able to sit and play at a local church, while getting hot cocoa.

“People come on hard times and we want this to be a safe, welcoming place for everybody, whether you’re volunteering or whether you’re needing the services,” Williams-Paisley said.

It’s just a community and we’re all in it together.”

The couple said they plan to make the toy store a repeat event, they said The Store still needs donations of food throughout the year to help Nashville families in need.

“We’re still not serving everybody that we want to serve. Food insecurity is on the rise. The USDA just released its report saying 17 million households in this country are facing food insecurity and that’s on the rise from 2021,” Williams-Paisley said. “There’s so much we want to do. And really like the toy store has shown us that we can keep going and we can keep expanding and growing.”

The couple previously noted that during The Store’s first year had delivered more than 1.3 million meals to residents.

The couple said the goal of not only The Store, but the toy store, was to make life easier for those in need.

“This has been our dream,” Williams-Paisley had said. “We’ve always wanted to see a Toy Store pop-up around the holidays that has the same framework and model as our grocery store, so that our customers can also shop for gifts for their families with dignity and choice.”
