Community Stunned By Store Owner – Watch As He Gives Them A Christmas Miracle

For the past 45 years, Ernie Giannecchini has been more than a store owner in Stockton, California — he’s become a community staple, blending Italian charm with holiday cheer. This season, Ernie is once again spreading the joy by lowering gas prices at his beloved Ernie’s General Store and Deli, proving that a little generosity can go a long way.

“I just decided to try to lower my prices as low as I could in the spirit of gratitude for all my loyal customers of the last 45 years,” said Giannecchini, 76, while greeting customers who popped in to thank him.

Located in the heart of the Central Valley farmlands, Ernie’s store is a hub for locals, commuters, and anyone looking for more affordable gas. At $3.49 a gallon for regular gas, it’s often nearly a dollar cheaper than nearby corporate chains. For families stretching their budgets during the holidays, this price difference means more than a full tank — it’s the chance to buy extra gifts or indulge in treats from the store’s Italian deli.

“The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of peace and giving and positive thinking,”  Giannecchini said. “And when we can do that, that’s what it’s all about.”

You see smiles on kids’ faces, it is great to see them happy.”

Ernie’s generosity extends beyond gas prices. The store’s Italian roots shine through in its offerings, including pastas, sauces and holiday panettone (a type of Italian sweetbread). Growing up with little, Ernie remembers how special amaretto cookies and chocolates were to his family during Christmas. Now, he loves seeing customers use their gas savings to bring home similar treats.

“They feel like they’ve got it for free because right across the street, it’s sometimes a dollar more a gallon,” he said. The holiday spirit isn’t new for Ernie, who used to play Santa for his community and family. “I didn’t need a pillow anymore to play Santa,” he joked. “In a sense, I see the same reaction right now by somewhat playing Santa.”

For many, Ernie’s store is more than a place to refuel; it’s a cornerstone of the community. Customers like Daniel Lazaro and Mark Jacke praised Ernie’s consistent affordability. “If someone is struggling financially, it could really help them, you know, not worry about gas,” Lazaro said.

Ernie loves being able to give back during the holidays, and doesn’t plan on quitting any time soon. “People ask when are you going to retire. Well, people keep me going and make me feel young.” With his customers as his family, Ernie’s holiday tradition of giving back isn’t just a gesture — it’s a way of life.
