Who doesn’t enjoy a little pink in their lives?
Turns out – apparently everyone needs a bit of Barbie. After becoming a massive hit this year, the movie “Barbie” has taken up first spot as one of the most requested Halloween costumes for the holiday.
And in one Utah neighborhood, it’s also taken over their entire community.
The neighborhood of Daybreak decided to take pink to the extreme, with more than 18 homes turning the area into ‘Barbieland’ just in time for trick-or-treating.
Lori Remington, who is known as “Barn Barbie,” said that they got the idea after a group of moms and daughters all went to see the movie together.
“Mainly one of the little girls fell in love with the movie and said ‘Mom, we should be Barbie for Halloween and make Barbieland,’, Remington said.
… all the moms just said ‘Let’s do it,'” she said.
The idea quickly spread throughout this close-knit neighborhood, and ‘Barbieland’ became a reality.
“I think my favorite is Barbie Dream House and Mojo, Dojo Casa House,” she said.
The neighbors picked the ones they wanted for their house. Neighbor Deidra Smith chose to do an astronaut-themed Barbie home.
“Right now we’re just building the fire to come out of it, and I’ll have a fog machine,” Smith said.
A clip shared to TikTok quickly went viral. In it, the movie’s signature song “Pink” plays as the camera scans over houses covered in pink flowers, with Barbie-type furniture, a disco ball and a slide.
And of course, it wouldn’t be complete if there wasn’t homage paid to Ken’s Mojo Dojo Casa House. One family made sure to include a saloon-style cowboy bar, an inflatable motorcycle and a giant horse.
A Barbie graveyard was created and tombstones placed for Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie, Sugar Daddy Ken and the patriarchy.
At night, each house glows a vibrant party pink that lights up the street.
Even Weird Barbie’s house will make an appearance – if the follow-up TikTok videos are to be believed.
It’s amazing to see how each of the neighbors have come up with their own take on this Barbie hit.
Smith said her favorite part of all is that it has created a sense of togetherness for the neighbors.
“We’ve been all creating — so everyone’s outside creating all their homes,” she said.
It’s a pink holiday. It’s a pink holiday for sure. Let’s make it official,” she said.
“I feel like it’s a landmark or something,” said Liz Gallegos, who jumped at the chance to decorate her home. “We have people at our house starting at like 8 a.m. even though we usually turn on lights and music around 5:30 p.m. in the evening. During the day we’ll just have moms or kids or strollers coming by, but by the late afternoon and early evening, it really starts picking up and between like 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., it’s just a constant stream of people like every single night, no matter what night of the week it is.”
However, Gallegos and her neighbors do not mind the crowd of people.

“It honestly makes me so happy because there’s a lot of really sad stuff in the world right now,” Gallegos said. “It’s hard to keep your chin up every day. So, it’s nice, happy, small little things that are making people happy.”
