I’ve always wondered where Waldo chose to hide himself. Apparently, the advanced hide-and-seeker decided to reveal himself when duty called and a striped hero was needed.
When Jess Parker set out for a morning walk with her 9-year-old corgi, Waldo, she never expected her day to turn into a scene straight out of a rescue drama. But that’s precisely what happened when a slippery path behind her Kitchener, Ontario, home transformed a routine stroll into an adventure.
“My body went, and my right leg didn’t. I heard a giant crack, and I knew that something was wrong,” she said. “My foot was facing completely east, and my body was facing north. So, it was very gruesome.” With her foot pointing in one direction and her body in another, it was clear she’d suffered a serious injury. Unfortunately, Parker had left her phone at home and was too far from the main road for her calls for help to reach anyone.
Enter Waldo, her four-legged wonder. “Waldo immediately jumps to action. He kisses me on the face and then runs away,” Parker said. What might have looked like abandonment was actually the first step in a remarkable rescue mission.
As Parker lay on the ground, clutching her broken foot, she watched Waldo dart off to find assistance. Before long, she saw him tugging at a stranger’s pant leg. “He starts barking and leads the guy to me. I’ve never met this guy before,” Parker said.
But Waldo wasn’t finished yet. After ensuring the stranger had located Parker, the courageous corgi dashed off again, this time to fetch Parker’s husband, Brady, and their landlord. “We just came right down here, and I could see some people gathering. I could hear Jess. She sounded like she was in a lot of pain,” Brady said.
Thanks to Waldo’s quick thinking, paramedics arrived swiftly, and Parker was taken to a local hospital. The doctor confirmed the urgency of the situation.
The doctor said I got there just in time. I was losing a lot of blood to my foot, and that can be quite dangerous,” Parker said.
Waldo’s heroics didn’t go unrewarded. Back at home, Parker treated her canine companion to a well-deserved steak dinner. “Steak dinner for our hero,” Parker captioned a sweet Instagram video, celebrating Waldo’s bravery.
While many might have expected this corgi to be an everyday pooch, Waldo is no stranger to the spotlight. He’s a social media sensation with nearly 14,000 TikTok followers and a penchant for starring in commercials. His claim to fame? Dressing up in tiny lederhosen for Oktoberfest, earning him the affectionate nickname, “the lederhosen corgi.”
Parker expressed her gratitude and surprise at Waldo’s actions. “He did the exact right thing, which was incredible,” she said. “It’s nice to know when something happens, he’s got my back.”
