There isn’t always an explanation for the random miracles that occur. They just happen – and in ways that seem impossible. And that is just what a mom of a four-month old baby said after her child was sucked into a tornado. Tennessee was recently hit by a series of tornadoes in a surprise storm.
Sydney Moore was home with her boyfriend and their two children when the weather became volatile. The family was inside their mobile home when the skies began darkening and the wind picked up. Moore said that the walls of the home suddenly began collapsing around her and her 1-year-old son. At that very moment, the kids’ father said he saw the tornado funnel rushing down on top of them.
“The roof came off first, the tip of the tornado came down and picked up the bassinet with my baby, Lord, in it,” Moore said.
He was the first thing to go up.”
Her boyfriend hurled himself to grab their 4-month-old baby who was asleep in the bassinet, but he got spun up and thrown out along with the baby. “He was just holding on to the bassinet the whole time, and they went into circles, he said, and then they got thrown,” Moore said. She said that she was in the back bedroom and threw herself over her oldest song as the walls came down on them.
Something in me just told me to run and jump on top of my son,” Moore said. Literally the moment I jumped on him, the walls collapsed.”
The frantic mom said she managed to push through the wreckage and get them both out of the destroyed home. But her baby was missing. Both parents began searching immediately, but the fear crept in – after all, how could such a tiny baby survive such a powerful storm?
But, after only 10 minutes of searching, the ultimate miracle happened – in the pouring rain, they looked up and spotted the baby lying in a tree that had fallen. The entire family walked away from the storm with only minor cuts and bruises. The family is now working to find a new home.
Through their community, she said, the family has been stocked up on diapers and formula. And a GoFundMe has raised more than $34,000 to help them relocate. The parents consider what they did to be what any parent would do for their children. “I will die for my kids. That’s not even a question. And my boyfriend would do the same thing,” she said.
