We often think of celebrities as these people who are on a different level than most of us. They seem too polished, too untouched by normal life to be anything like the average person.
But in putting celebrities on pedestals, we forget that they are in fact, just human. Like us, trying to navigate their world the best they know how. That includes giving the ‘tough’ advice on fashion or love.
Even celebrities need best friends. For Jennifer Aniston, known for her role as Rachel Greene on “Friends”, one of her closest friends is none other than comedian Adam Sandler, of “Saturday Night Live” fame.
The two, according to an interview Sandler gave to E! News in 2019, were always going to be friends. The pair met when they both were in their early 20s, just as they were starting on the paths to stardom. Decades later, their friendship has stood the test of time.
“I knew I was going to be friends with her,” Adam told E! News about when he and Aniston first met.
I didn’t know I was going to be making movies with her. We both didn’t know that — we were young and we didn’t have jobs quite then.”
And Sandler was right. The pair have starred in multiple films together, from the 2011 romantic comedy, “Just Go With It”, where the two played friends, until Sandler’s character realizes he is actually in love with her.
But it would be 8 years later before the two would act in another movie together – Netflix’s comedy “Murder Mystery”, where the pair would be lovers in the middle of a murder they were involved in.
The chemistry was so good between the friends, that Netflix green-lit a “Murder Mystery 2”, now airing on the streaming site.
Aniston made an appearance recently on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, where she talked about the film and her longtime friendship with Sandler.
“We met at Jerry’s Deli on Ventura Boulevard when we were 20 and 22,” she said. Fallon asked her if ‘over the years, have you given each other advice?”
Laughing, she said, “If I get anything from him, it’s ‘What are you doing?’ — usually based on someone I’m dating.”
“‘What are you doing? What’s wrong with you?’” she said, impersonating Sandler’s voice.
However, she said she was always careful to watch over her friend, too. ‘But I’ve very much love to take care of him. He’s so concerned with taking care of everybody else, which he really does but he doesn’t take care of himself,’ she added.
I’m sorry to call you out on national television, Adam, but you have to know this. I have a little arsenal of herbs in my trailer and I make him smoothies when I can and give him all sorts of Chinese herbs when he is exhausted.”
Viewers of the clip that was shown on YouTube were quick to embrace the pair’s refreshing friendship. “Jen and Adam’s friendship is a testament that guys and ladies can be platonic friends,” one commenter said.
Aniston later shared that she went to dinner with Sandler and his wife, Jackie. “Jackie looked beautiful in an eyelet dress,” she said. “Her hair was done and he shows up in basketball shorts. Satin basketball shorts with white piping and Nike high tops. And turquoise velour Izod that had no relationship.”
The “Friends” actress said that Vogue made Adam a style icon. “Now he’s like ‘Vogue said I was amazing like this,’” Jennifer said. “So thanks, Vogue.”
What a heartwarming friendship that shows famous stars can often be more like us than we realize.
